Pre-Reading

Pre-Reading:
A superpower is a special power that is used to improve not only your own life, but the lives of the community at large.  If you could have one superpower, what would you have?  How would you use it to improve mankind? Give specific examples of how this power would help others.  Keep this idea in mind as you read the book.

If I could have one superpower, to use to the benefit of myself as well as mankind as a whole there is one clear answer. I would have making the right decisions as my superpower because as humans we all make mistakes and we don't always know if we are doing the right thing. With this superpower the world would become more just and right. I would be able to decipher what is right and wrong much more easily that without this power. Some specific examples as how I would use this to benefit and help others are during a court trial if I was a juror or a judge. Another specific example would be when a cashier gave the incorrect amount of change to me I would correct them and not walk off with the extra, instead of making the wrong decision.

I would choose to be able to make or invent anything I choose to. It would only work with what I choose to do not just anything I think, as that would be chaotic and hard to control. I would use it to invent great technologies to save innocent lives. For instance, I’d find a cure for cancer, as cancer victims are usually innocent. I would also use it to cause events that save innocent people. If someone were falling off a building, I could imagine time had stopped and that I could walk through the air to the person and carry him down, as opposed to the less desirable way of touching ground. I could invent anything for any situation, giving me infinite ways to do anything. Humanity as a whole could be boosted into the future with technology like enhanced artificial organs and limbs.

    1. There is no such thing as invention only discovery. We do not create ideas or inventions we only discover them.

If I were to choose one superpower that would help improve not only my life but the whole of mankind, I would choose the power of truth. With this power I would be able to sense when people are lying and I would also have the option to will them into speaking the truth. For example, if I were every to be put on a Jury, or I make it into law school and become a successful lawyer I could sense when a person is lying and will them to tell the truth. So in major cases where someone was on trial for homicide and a witness had been tipped off to lie, I could will them into telling about what they saw and who was paying them to lie. Not only would we have more proof against the person on trial, but we would also be able to clean up the streets. I really do feel like the power of truth could be quite helpful because people would really start to be held accountable for their word and very few people would get away with lying.

If I were to choose any one superpower that would help improve not only mankind but myself as well, I would choose the ability to see into the future. With this power I would be one of the first people to sense danger. I would also have the ability to influence events before anything traumatic happens. One specific example of how this power would benefit mankind is in the chaos of a robbery. I would sense the danger in this situation and go get help from higher authorities before anyone in the area got hurt. Another example is in the instance of a shooting. I could possibly influence the shooter into turning himself and and not hurting anyone. In my personal opinion, I believe that having the power to see into the future would benefit not only myself but the community as well.

  6. Interesting superpowers you're choosing, and I like the reasons you're giving. Would your choices change if your power was just to benefit yourself?

If I could have one super power, it would be to be able to create any form of matter or element. Whether it be iron, wood, or oxygen, it could be used to help the world. Oxygen to save suffocating victims, or wood to light and warm frozen bodies. Luxuries like gold and diamonds would no longer be in short supply. Clean water could be given to areas that are in droughts such as Nevada and California. This power could be used as a great personal benefit or used to help people around the world.

  9. If I could have one superpower that could improve mankind, I would choose the ability to influence and control ones thoughts and feelings. Although all things can be used bad, I would only want these special gifts to be used for good. This power would be used to help those in need. If someone was going to commit a crime, I would be able to prevent it from occurring. If a person was going through a hard time , the special power could influence more happy thoughts. This superpower would be able to have people make better choices, therefore making out world a better place to live in. Being able to influence ones thoughts and actions could help not only yourself, but those around you.

If I could have one superpower, I would choose the ability to travel back in time. Most people might rather choose the ability to see the future, but for me, I would like to go back to the past. Many things had happen to me in the past, and they are both good and bad. If I have the ability to go back in time, I would go back and fix all the bad things that had happen to me, and also improve the mankind. To do that, I would learn my mistakes, and also the mistakes people have done in the past. For example, cigarettes and alcohol. If there are cigarettes and alcohol in this world, people would not get cancer as much as right now. If there are no cigarettes, my father would still be alive. So I would go back in time and stop people from making them, and also tell them how dangerous they are.

If I had any superpower that I wanted, I would choose the ability to fly. This may not seem like the reasonable power to choose, but there are many ways that this can help mankind. For starters, I could not get lost anywhere. If I end up losing my way, I can simply fly up and get back where I'm supposed to be. Also, the ability to fly helps when it comes to long distance travel on foot. However, these are only ways that can help me. This ability can help man if I choose to help them. I can rescue anyone in a dangerous situation, by carrying them off to safety. Also, if someone is lost in a large forest, I can help by searching not only on foot, but in the air. If I were to do these things, mankind can recognize that we should all be kinder and try to help others. Even though the superpower to fly doesn't seem that helpful, there are always ways to help mankind.

If I could have any super power I would choose to be able to control the oceans or seas. But, there is a catch I am in the form of a mermaid. On the other hand, I would use my power for mankind to keep natural disasters like tsunamis from happening. I would also use my power to keep the humans who come to the water safe. I would do this by bringing the drowning victims to shore and keeping the shark attacks to a minimum. Continuing I would keep the oceans clean but, pushing the trash out of the water. Lastly, I could use my power to discover new fish and research the fish that have already been discovered. There are many options with this superpower to help mankind.

If I could have one superpower, it would be the ability to run faster than light (super speed). With this power, I could do many things. One is that I could get anywhere in the world almost immediately so I could save people’s lives. I could do regular tasks faster like building, or working which would help get more important things built and more tasks done. I could also help people before bad things happen. For example, if someone shot a machine gun in a spray towards civilians, I could move all the people or the bullets before anyone dies. I could also save people from burning buildings before anyone got hurt. I could beat any soldier because I could disarm people and dodge bullets like they were flying in slow motion. The power to run faster than light would be beneficial to me and the world.

  16. If i could have one super power or "Special Ability" it would be Enhanced Intelligence.
I would be able to cure cancers and all kinds of sicknesses in the world. Also i would resolve a plan to create world peace and end war all over the world so no more people can get hurt for war. I would not use my power for good and nothing else. With Enhanced Intelligence i have the ability to learn any other special powers i intend to use to help people. I have to not let them abuse me for their needy greed. That is why i need to be smart with it and use it for the greater good and improve our lives by so much.

If I could have one superpower to benefit my life as well as mankind, though there are many to choose from, I would choose the ability to, just by imagining it in my mind, make a physical object appear in front of me. There are many ways I could use this power to help others as well as myself. To help myself, I could imagine any food and watch it appear in front of me if I'm hungry, or basically picture anything at all I might desire, and have it for myself. Furthermore, I could help mankind by giving my mind-produced goods to anybody who needs them. For example, if I encounter a person in need of food, clothes, or other essentials, I would be able to provide as needed. I could also basically help in infinite ways by providing any amount of people with as much anything as I can muster in my mind.

If I could have a superpower, it would be the ability to teleport. With this superpower many things could be done. One of them would be that I could go to any place in the world to save someone. No one would be able to shoot me if I kept teleporting. I could get to places a lot more faster and accomplish more tasks. I could save lots of time and prevent bad things to happen. For example, I could teleport goods from the United States to other countries in need of goods. The power to teleport would be benefiting me and other people.

If I could have one super power, it would be to control the earths natural elements. Having this power could benefit others and myself in a number of ways. For example, I could stop forest fires or burning buildings, basically anything that pertains to this particular element. With water I could help the states and countries going through droughts. Having control of earth could aid me in stopping natural disasters. As for this power benefitting me, I could get rid of bad weather when it is unwanted by me.

If Josh Mikulak could have one superpower, it would be the power to fly. I would use the power of flight to improve mankind by zipping through the air at high speeds over and through cities to stop catastrophes, save lives, and stop crimes. This would improve mankind by making the world a safer. A specific example of how this power of flight would help others could be when I see a person about to get hit by a car and then I quickly fly over and move this person from their oncoming death. Another example of how I could use this power to help others is when there's criminals on the loose and I fly high to get an unparalleled view in order to locate and capture him. This would tie in to the main part of using my power to help mankind by patrolling the city in the air looking for crimes to stop and people to save.

If I could any super power I wanted it would probably be the ability to be able to go through anything at will. if someone was trapped in a burning building I could go through the rubble and grab them and get out. If there was a mine collapse I could get in there and save all the miners. If anyone gets crushed or is about to I could just grab them and it would fall right through us. This would benefit me because I could go anywhere. I could walk through mountains, walls, houses, fences, and anything else that stands in my way. I could never get hit with anything from bullets to balls. I would also be the best football player since no one could touch me.
