Post Reading

Go back to your superpower from the beginning. After reading this book, would you still choose the same superpower?  Would you want to use your power to help others or keep the power for yourself? Be sure to remind us of your superpower choice from the prereading.

At the end of your post, please rate this book from 0-5 stars. The rating will not be calculated into your grade, this is just for my own information.  Explain why you rate this book the way you do.

I would still choose my supper power as being able to make the right decisions no matter how hard those decisions may be. To me this would be an invaluable ability because I could live my life with no regrets. I would not want to share my ability with others I would want them to believe I am just very wise in my decision making. I would also keep this ability to myself because you never know who might try to use your ability for a less than noble cause. I would rate this book a 4.9 out of 5 because I could not stop reading it. I would pick the book up and tell myself to stop after one chapter but find myself reading five instead because it keeper you on the edge of your seat the entire time. It was constantly changing and exciting the entire way through. I usually don't enjoy books but this particular book is an exception. The only reason I didn't rate it a 5 out of 5 is due to the last page where Maddox comes back and her father was alive the entire time. This was a cliffhanger obviously drawing you to read the next book in the series. I prefer my books wrapped up in a neat little bow for the ending not questions left unanswered.

After reading this book I would still choose my power over truth. I would also continue with carrying out my plan of helping the situation out when I see fit. To be completely honest reading the book really had no effect on my decision whatsoever. This is because I didn't really find the book to be well written. The author would quite literally switch from saying 'Annabeth' to 'Anne' within the same paragraph and it annoyed me so incredibly much. Not only that the book was just overall poorly written. I mean sure, it had some potential and it could have been absolutely wonderful. But it was honestly just written in such a weird way that was far far lower than what it could have been. I can see so many ways how people can like this book and enjoy it, but for me it was just so terrible and such a disappointment. Not to mention all the lovey dovey information that was thrown in. If I'm going to read a book it's going to be because I want to read about a story and if I want something lovey dovey I'll go watch The Notebook or any other movie to that effect. Overall I have to give this book a solid two out of five.

    1. I still question the morals of forcing someone to do anything, let alone the way you do it.

The book had nothing to do with my superpower whatsoever, and wasn't exactly a morally based story, and it did very little to make the reader think. After almost no consideration (the amount required given the new "information" from the book), I still agree with my earlier choice of superpower, being the ability to will something into existence. I would like to modify my choice however, making it so I could will things out of existence, if I willed them in beforehand. It is inevitable for my power to help both myself and others, especially in a capitalist society, where my services to others will benefit me too. I would want to use my power to help other innocent people, but I would make sure not to become corrupt with my power. I also need to make rules so that I don't become corrupt or insane from precautious use of my power.

I absolutely disliked/hated this book, I despised the entire first half or so, and could only tolerate reading the second half without as much drain bramage per-sentence. I would really like to get one of the closest things to rightful revenge on this book by giving it a 0, but since that's just plain mean and I can see it hooking a different group. Out of 5, where each whole point is 20%, I give it a..... 0.4. It is not a good choice for a school book, and it frankly isn't appropriate for school. As we are forced to read something neither educational, entertaining, or clean. It has poorly done romance because it's not clean, and the romance is probably added so Cameron has another excuse for being a complete moron. There is teenage inability to make intelligent decisions (for instance, me releasing such a rude rating) and then there is an inexcusable incompetence. You can guess which of the two I fit Cameron into. Lastly, the book was not intellectual or about war, which honestly takes away ALL the good subjects.

    1. I'm not trying to be rude...just expressing my opinion :) . I have to disagree on how you said it wasn't appropriate for school. I'm sure if you stepped one foot in CCHS you would know that high school is full of inappropriate stuff. Which is not okay but they weren't being explicit, shes a teenage girl. I totally agree it wasn't really educational in any way though :).

    2. I have to agree with Allie on this one. If you have not been hearing these sorts of things you are living to sheltered of a life my friend. The world isn't warm and cuddly, that is just a fact of life. If you are complaining about vague explanations of things in a book you will no make it far in life. The point of the book was not for it to be educational and we don't really care if you thought it was entertaining. It was and assignment. The point was to keep your mind active over the summer so you don't lose the elasticity in your mind.

I just have to state my opinion as I just read your response. Romance does not turn bad because it is not clean. Our life is full of things that are not clean. We are young adults I believe we can handle some of the things that may not be up to your standards of clean. It is completely appropriate we need to grow up.

After reading this book, I would still choose the ability to travel back in time. I would use my ability to help the mankind and improve the community. When I did something bad or not the way I wanted to be, I'd always say to myself that I should have done the better way, but it was too late to fix it now. That is why I still choose the ability to travel back in time. I would learn my mistakes and take that lesson to go back to fix everything.

The Mind Readers is now becoming my favorite book. It is the first book that make me wanted to read more. This book is really interesting I can't put it down. Usually, I didn't like to read series book, because the first book of the series didn't really impressed me, but for this series, I don't want it to end. The Mind Readers is very interesting because you can never guess what will happen next. I give this book 5 out of 5 because there is a twist at the end of the book, and that makes me want to finish the whole series.

From the beginning, I chose the superpower to be able to influences ones thoughts and feelings. After finishing The Mind Readers, I would still choose the same gift because it could help the world in ways I think should be improved. I would want to keep my power to myself, but still help others at the same time just not every second. I believe that all powers come with a catch you could say. In ways that the power itself could be used for bad. However, in the prereading I stated that my superpower would only be used for good so it wouldn't be able to harm anyone in the end. I agree with Kailee that reading this book also had no effect on my decision. However that didn't mean I didn't like the book....I actually really liked it.

From the start, I loved this book. I thought it was very unique and carried a great theme. I think it was a great choice for a school book, and is appropriate for school. To be quite honest, those that say it wasn't appropriate I have to strongly disagree. You hear way more inappropriate things just by walking in the halls of a high school. We are in high school so I'm pretty sure we can handle a few words and a paragraph about love that wasn't even explicit. From the beginning I knew we weren't supposed to learn some sort of life lesson so I didn't have high expectations or for it to be as complex as something we might read when the school year begins. I rate this book a 5 because I didn't even want to put the book down. Even though it left me with a cliff hanger, it gives me a reason to read the rest of the series.

After reading this book, I would still choose the same power as before, which was the ability to fly. Although it may seem like it doesn't help many people, it can be useful in some ways. Like I've said before, I can't ever get lost, since I can always fly into the air and see where I am. I can help others by assisting in search and rescue parties, or fly someone to safety in a dangerous situation such as a house fire. I know that the ability to fly isn't very helpful to all mankind, but I believe that the best work someone can do is by starting in their community. I would rate this book a three out of five, because I probably wouldn't have chosen to read it on my own. However, I did enjoy the actual story and plot line. I don't believe that I would read the next books in the series, only because I got bored with the writing style and the character's point of view. I'm not trying to be sexist, but I would prefer to read books in the point of view of a male. But overall, I enjoyed this story and assignment.

After finishing this book I would still choose to control the ocean and other bodies of water in mermaid form This book does not change my superpower. I would probably do more work with no one knowing like cleaning up the ocean or saving beached animals. I would also still use my power to save humans who enter the water. I would never not be a mermaid for any reason in the entire world.
I would rate this book a 4 because I enjoyed the story and I was entertained throughout the whole thing. This is the most important thing for me. I did like the plot and story but, I have read better books.

After reading this book, I would still choose Enhanced Intelligence to still be able to cure sicknesses and help out the world with war and health. I can use my ability to do so many things to change the world as much as i can or as little as i can if people are not ready for change. But i will do what i can if help is needed. I would not want to risk anyone getting hurt by my actions too or thinking that i think that i am better than everyone. I would just try to live a normal life in a normal house and coming up with brand new ideas for the world and to help its environment grow into a work of art.

I would rate this book a 5. I really enjoyed reading it even though i don't like reading that much this book really was interesting.

  10. After reading this book, I would still like to have control over the natural elements. To be able to help the world with just nature is amazing, I would NOT keep this power to myself. As long as I knew how to use it without fail and without potentially bringing harm to others. Stopping natural disasters could literally change lives. Its the best feeling knowing you helped someone, so I would love to feel that way all the time. I would rate this book a 4 as it was very interesting to me, the only reason it didn't get a fifth star is because I'm not too big of a reader.

After reading this book, I would still have the ability to teleport. Even though it may not help many people, it would still be beneficial to me. I can always get to places I need to be faster and more tasks could be completed. I give the story a three out of five. The point of view of the characters and the style of writing bored me a little. Throughout the story everyone was saying that Cameron's dad was dead. At the end Maddox comes up to Cameron and tells her that her dad is not dead. It leaves you at a dead end wondering how he is alive. I would not read the next books in the series. However, it was a great story overall.

  12. Even after reading this book, I would still choose the superpower to fly. I would still want to use my power to help others when the situation required me to do so. Overall, I would rate this book a one star out of five. This is only because the plot was somewhat good. However, this book was not appropriate for school or summer reading. For instance, it had a lot of language and was definitely not clean/had a lot of inappropriate sexual references. With that said, I also totally disliked the main character Cameron. This whole book was centered around this cowardly, cry-baby, and stupid/foolish girl. If someone asked me if they should read this book, I couldn't give them a good reason to. This book was lucky enough to get one star. Fearghus was even harsher about this than myself, yet I agree with his rating of the book.

After reading The Mind Readers, I would still choose the ability to make objects in my head appear at will. I would most definitely help others as well as myself with this ability. Because it is so simple to use for others and myself, both would be retained as what I will serve.

Out of five stars, I would rate this three stars. The reason for the absence of two stars are a couple of things. The author did not seem to take into account how many times she used the same phrase or words multiple times. In other words, the phrasing was very repetitive and that did bother me a little. Also, the story and idea did remind me of other books and their elements, which made it not feel as original. On the other hand, I do think it was a fantastic book. I loved the idea and how much it made me think (I love books that work my mind!). I also believe that it was an absolute perfect book choice, especially for the summer. Before I started the reading homework, I thought something like, "It's summer! I don't want to do homework in summer! I want to have fun!" but it turned out to be one of those can't-put-down-until-you-know-what-happens-next kinds of books. That, in my opinion, is the perfect choice of book to read in summer (especially when you just had a past school year of nothing but classics).

  14. I would still like to have the ability to go through matter. Reading minds would be cool, but you would get discouraged of all the people mentally tearing you down. I also wouldn't really like reading certain peoples minds. I enjoyed the book and it wasn't really that bad. I would give it a four out of five because I've read books better than it but it's still good enough to read the second book in the series which I will probably do. Some people think there was a lot of sexual references, but there really wasn't that many. I have read books with twice as many inappropriate references. So I think this book is a really good book and a good read.

For me, reading this book hasn't changed that I would want my superpower to be super-speed. I would still use my power to fight for what is right and help people. I think that this book was a two out of five star book. I thought that it started out okay and had some good suspense, but towards the end it turned into a romance novel. Not that all of them are bad, but this one was sappy and the story suffered because of it. I also think that the main character wasn't very likable or interesting. I think that the author could have done a better job with the awesome idea of mind readers.
